What's Due on Monday, January 24th?

Case Study: Mario Segarra
Photo of the original client whom he introduced himself to the owners and they became very involved in his progress. They were excited and delighted that he was going to work on their restaurant. They did end up purchasing the work from him for their current look. Great improvement. Mario's work had a wonderful sense of humor and was also very respectful of the client's wishes as well. A beautiful re-design that was strong enough to garner Mario a place in the graphic design program. He is currently working in NYC in design job.

Where Mario started with their old look and signage:

The new direction with several of the print collateral work.

I think we've just about gotten the class size down to something more manageable for all of us and for this I'm grateful because it will make the class more manageable and hopefully give all of us more time to spend individually and collectively. Thanks for your patience and understanding during this period.

What's due for Monday:

1. Please bring in at least 3 clients you might wish to work with this semester as you re-brand and re-design their current look. Take some time and discover some clients that really need the design overhaul or perhaps it's a family business or a business that is something you are family with or even a place you frequent daily. Sometimes your own history with a company/client can prove to be most beneficial. Otherwise, choose a place that will inspire you to new heights this semester. Again, who and what you choose ultimately becomes your design task for the entire semester...so choose wisely.
Again, think long term and ask yourself if this client has some elasticity to it in terms of print and production work. The client must be versatile enough to withstand some old and new design ideas from your creative mind.

You can go out and talk to the clients you want to re-design by telling them what you are doing (always a good idea) or you can simply keep it to yourself and perhaps at the end of the re-design/re-branding you take all your hard work to them and let them see it. Mostly, you want to choose a client that you can research and have fun with during the semester.

Shoot photographs/collect artifacts & materials from the current client. See what they have already available with respects to printed materials, animation, collateral materials such as matches, business cards, menus, exterior and interior signage, transportation vehicles they might use, outfits or uniforms, advertisements, etc.
All of this will help you on your quest to re-design their look.

Bring in 3 Examples of clients. We'll help you choose one for the semester.
Post these on your individual blogs/websites.

2.Blogs: Create your own blogsite/website for this course; however you might have one already started from the fall or earlier so you can continue this as part of GrD3200.
You'll need to furnish me with your blog address so I can link it to this course blogsite.

3. Post 5 of your favorite logos and 5 of your least favorite logos. Be able to talk about why you like them and hate them.

4. Post at least 1 logo that has gone through a re-design. It's up to you whether or not you like it or hate it. Be able to talk about it in class.
