“13th Annual Juried Student Exhibition”, student work featured at the
Welch School Galleries, Georgia State University

Exhibit dates: April 4-15, 2011
Reception & Awards Ceremony: Thursday, April 7, 5:00-8:00 p.m.
The 13th Annual Juried Student Exhibition, will be on view from April 4
through 15 at the Ernest G. Welch School of Art & Design Galleries at Georgia
State University. A reception and awards ceremony will be Thursday, April 7,
5:00 – 8:00 p.m. The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.
Juror Michael Rooks, Wieland Family Curator of Modern & Contemporary Art at
the High Museum of Art, has selected 60 works in a variety of media submitted
by undergraduate and graduate students of the Ernest G. Welch School of Art
and Design.

Rooks received a MA in modern art history, theory and criticism and a BFA at the
School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He has lectured on postwar and
contemporary art at museums and universities across the United States, and
conducted public interviews with various contemporary artists. Rooks served as a
curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, The Contemporary
Museum Honolulu, the Honolulu Academy of Arts and most recently, Haunch of
Venison in New York.
Welch School Galleries director Cynthia Farnell says, “ With 174 entries this year,
the competition was tremendous. The sheer volume of high quality student work
being made in the program is impressive. Iʼm looking forward to the awards
reception with great anticipation.”
